The holistic learning curriculum of the Mangrove
Seed Institute expands the essential psycho-spiritual transformation
through applied, practical exercises in six core module areas of
learning: emotional, spiritual, physical, mental, social, and practical. This “body” of content and experiential exercises can be imagined as the material form that surrounds a three-phase, nine-action structural “spinal column” as its core. The educational curriculum is designed to appeal to three different levels of ADULT development on the journey of recovering a balanced S(s)elf. The levels differ only in the depth of discussion and allow persons at similar levels of psycho-spiritual growth to support each other.

Retreat conferences are periodically sponsored to provide an international gathering for those interested in all aspects of peaceful living. In summary, the holistic program of the Mangrove Seed Institute balances the critically separate, but related psychological and spiritual paths in daily living. The journey home not only replaces fear with trust, but also promotes an eventual shift away from the addictive illusion of personal control that was formed by a fear-based survival belief system. We must be willing to build a “peaceful
coping consciousness” based on inner S(s)elf trust. INNATE S(s)elf worth.
1. Teachers/facilitators
are obtained on both a paid and volunteer basis, from established
professionals in holistic wellness. They are chosen especially
for their ability and attitude to communicate clearly, to establish
a caring and trusting rapport with students, and to provide meaningful
experiential learning based on their personal life experiences. 7. The
role of “student-teacher” is reciprocal: students are
not only students, but also teachers; and teachers not only teach,
but also are students. Non-negative and non-judgmental dialogue
is the key requirement for effective experiential learning and
transformation. 11. A most critical aspect of the Mangrove Seed experience is a constant, conscious personal and group attitude and demonstration of personal accountability. Students are expected to take total personal responsibility for the success and outcomes of the learning experience; and, are expected to be highly proactive in their sharing at group meetings.
1. Learning To Trust One New Balanced S(s)elf The
key to peaceful living is the recovery of a balanced rational
and intuitive S(s)elf by learning to trust one balanced S(s)elf.
The Mangrove Seed offers a new model and practice discipline
based on a paradigm shift from fear-based to trusting beliefs,
attitudes, and behaviors.
The shift not only balances fear with trust, but also promotes a release of the dysfunctional, addictive illusion of personal control in daily living. The holistic learning program balances the critically separate, but related psychological and spiritual paths to a recover a balanced S(s)elf. Peaceful living involves using both the rational mind--(s)-- and the intuitive mind--S--in every present moment. The death of the traditional "selfish" ego-mind does not necessarily foster a spiritual life; an enlightenment by a "loving" spiritual mind does not necessarily promote practical daily living. We need BOTH minds, a balanced S(s)elf, to function with wholeness and peace. We must dance with balanced duality, not singularity.
2. Releasing Dominant Control By The Rational Mind The essential recovery of trust requires releasing compulsive rational mind control in daily decision making. The recovery of a balanced S(s)elf requires crossing the river of fear on a bridge of trust. Some aspect of "the crossing" is always happening in daily life. New opportunities for personal transformation are presented with every breath of our life. The rational, fear-based mind searches incessantly, expecting to find certainty in life and conquer inherent human fears of death. However, the ever-changing flow of life demands a complementary search for uncertainty by the intuitive, trust-based mind. Balancing both quests for "knowing" is the holistic way of peaceful living. Our
responsibility is to consciously envision this journey as a daily "way
of life," a way of being in every present moment. The road has
no "steps" to climb to reach some destination; the journey
is the destination---a constant practice of balancing the survival
rational mind with the expressive intuitive mind. 3. Maintaining The Balanced New S(s)elf The ultimate goal for sustained, long-term change into peaceful living is to develop the two habits of balanced S(s)elf acceptance and UNconditional caring. S(s)elf acceptance implies a conscious and continuous release/surrender of any mental connection with psychological past and future and a balanced, in the moment, re-connection with the one S(s)elf: BOTH the rational and intuitive minds. The continual process of "trusting personal S(s)elf acceptance" is the sina qua non for maintaining the new balanced S(s)elf, as well as for the compassionate recognition that this same S(s)elf exists in all other humans. The Mangrove Seed program of balance does not destroy the rational mind, in favor of the intuitive mind. It complements and nurtures the expression of each of these necessary functions in our daily existence. We are born in a physical form to learn to express, in a unique way, our "divine spirit", through our intuitive Self. The rational mind constructs a safe environment for the intuitive Self to manifest. However, in our western culture the rational mind has become too powerful, too dominant in everyday "survival living." This causes us to lose our harmonious inner peace. This functional, sometimes too dominant, aspect of our "human existence" derails our journey to peaceful living. We often become inhibited by incidental, and often irrelevant, life situation scenarios that take us away from our focus on balanced S(s)elf expression.
.
The essential journey home to a balanced S(s)elf involves crossing the river of fear on a bridge of trust. This process occurs not only on a daily basis, but in every moment when a person is fully conscious of his/her interaction with the outer world. Some aspect of “the crossing” is always happening in daily life; new opportunities for personal transformation are being presented with every breath of our life. The responsibility of a person in recovery of a balanced S(s)elf is to envision this journey as a way of life, a way of being in every present moment. Simply stated, "being in the present moment" means a conscious awareness of BOTH logical thoughts and feelings --an objective and subjective reality. A person must "live in the gap" where chronological time, past and future, momentarily ceases to exist. What "seems
to be real" when interpreted by the rational mind, prone to
survival fear, must be challenged and balanced by
the intuitive mind, prone to trust UNconditional
caring. The rational mind creates a belief system that is too often
linked to psychological past memories of pain(resentments) and future
expectations(fears) of a re-occurrence of similar "actually
experienced past pain."
The ultimate “operational imperative” for sustained, long-term recovery from all fear-based compulsive thinking and addictions is to develop the habit of S(s)elf ACCEPTANCE: honoring not only your "imperfect human wholeness," but also that of every other S(s)elf. Acceptance implies a conscious and continuous surrender of any mental connection with PSYCHOLOGICAL past (resentment) and future (fear) through a balanced re-connection with the S(s)elf in every present moment. Continual daily practice of the nine principles of the Mangrove Seed learning program for peaceful living will manifest the habit of S(s)elf acceptance. The nine actions are not “steps” to be taken on the journey; they are constant benchmark guidelines for a personal response to the fear-based survival demands of rational mind. Most importantly, the Mangrove Seed offers only a "how to" plan for peaceful living; you must provide the "what to do" from your personal life situation. You are provided with a skeleton upon which you add your individual flesh and muscle to create an authentic S(s)elf.
